Healing Narrative, AB

Advisors:  Brian Hayden, Andrew E. Colarusso

Capstone:  Wearing/Tearing/Stitching

Capstone Advisor:  Jonathan Readey

Healing Narrative examines the relationship between written forms of narrative and the structuring and interpretive work of healing. Building upon theoretical frameworks of psychoanalysis and psychopathology, literary structuralist theory, and trauma studies, the concentration explores the literary and nonfiction structures through which individuals recount, connect, interpret, and validate experiences of illness and trauma.

Wearing/Tearing/Stitching is a written project examining the interdisciplinary bases of the Healing Narrative concentration, synthesizing structuralist theory, psychological research, and trauma theory with dialogue, nonfiction narrative, and poetry.

"Congratulations, Anneliese, on your graduation from Brown and your completion of your independent concentration! You should be so proud of your outstanding accomplishments throughout your time at Brown; you represent the very best of Brown University, and we know that you will contribute great things to the world beyond the Van Wickle Gates." --Jonathan Readey

"Anneliese, you are a one of a kind human being. You have truly blessed my life with your kindness, intelligence, wisdom, and empathy. I am so proud of you for getting through these four years with grace and style. These are bleak times, but stay positive, keep the faith—and if not the faith, then keep making those ridiculously good playlists!" --Andrew E. Colarusso
