Capstone: China's Militaristic Rise and its Effects on Contemporary and Future American-Sino Relations
Capstone Advisor: John Tomasi
Political Science, Philosophy, and Economics is an interdisciplinary concentration that analyzes the complex social, political, and economic realities of both the historical and modern world from a diverse pool of perspectives.
My capstone presentation, entitled "China's Militaristic Rise and its Effects on Contemporary and Future American-Sino Relations," looks at the exponential buildup of the Chinese military and how it will influence potential conflict between the two great powers. The presentation describes China's often misunderstood culture, analyzes the statistics and theories of the country's military spending, and outlines how the perspectives of Western nation-states on the Asian giant's militaristic rise substantially differ from Chinese perspectives.
Acknowledgments: I'd like to first and foremost thank my mom Yvonne, for her continuous support and love. She pushed me to put in the effort to make my own major and explore my true academic interests. Thank you to my IC advisor John Tomasi, who guided me morally and intellectually throughout my studies at Brown. He taught me in two political philosophy classes, and I loved going to his office hours on Fridays to discuss any questions I had on my mind. Finally, thank you to my dad Michael (whom I think about every day), my sister Sienna, my uncle Dave and aunt Barb. I don't know where I'd be without any of them, but I wouldn't be here.
