Capstone: Lost & Found: stories of partition, people and place

Narrative Form and Visual Culture understands narrative as a combination of the process of research, the development of artistic form, and the understanding of cultural contexts. This is done by considering the interdisciplinary nature of three pillars: ‘Visual Theories’, ‘Anthropological Research’, and ‘Film/Performance’. Through combining theory and practice and considering the concepts of ‘visual’ and ‘culture’ as essential, the study aims to develop a holistic and nuanced understanding of narrative.
My capstone project is a documentary style short film that looks at two personal stories from the partition of India and asks questions about family history, material memory, and loss. One story is about finding my grandmother and what remains of her 40 years after her death, and the other is about a man who came across the border during partition and thought he had lost all he had of home.
