About the Matched Advising Program for Sophomores (MAPS)

MAPS matched 130 sophomores to mentors this year. The MAPS Coordinators Emma and Meg provided a training for mentors, and hosted a welcome event for mentees. The coordinators prepared discussion prompts for mentor/mentee pairs to discuss for more directed and intentional conversations, and provided $5 Dining Dollars as an extra incentive to meet. Additionally, Emma and Linda hosted a study break, a session for sophomores on how to upload the concentration declaration in ASK, and a session for rising first years about how to prepare for sophomore year.

For the first time since the program's founding in 2010, we were not able to meet the demand for mentors; over 270 sophomores applied. Deans Maud Mandel and Peggy Chang with some CRC staffers hosted a dinner event for sophomores who weren't paired with a mentor. In addition, some mentors suggested the program provide a training for mentees on how to engage with their mentor, and plan more structured events next year.
